News 2008
- The future of FutureGen is bleak as the DOE
has cancelled plans for the plant at Mattoon,
Illinois.
- The H2GO radio controlled hydrogen fuel cell
toy race car has been unveiled in Germany as
the first of many similar RC vehicles to follow.
- South Carolina is a hotbed of hydrogen research
at the University at Columbia is hosting several
manufacturers for fuel cells.
News 2007
- The Buckeye Bullet 2 is attempting to break
the land speed record for hydrogen racecars
in August. Ford will also be attempting to break
a record with their own hydrogen car at the
Bonneville Salt Flats.
- Brad Pitt steps out of a BMW Hydrogen 7 luxury
car in Los Angeles to promote his new movie,
Ocean's 13. The hydrogen car was just a loaner
for the evening according to BMW.
- Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hollywood action hero
and California Governor, toted celebrities and
other notables around in hydrogen cars and vehicles
the first week of January 2007. The hydrogen
car festivities were part of the governor's
pre-innaugural Green Dream celebration in Sacramento.
News 2006
- BMW went into production of the Hydrogen 7
luxury car on November 13, 2006 and will roll
out the vehicle to 100 select customers in the
first quarter of 2007. The BMW Hydrogen 7 was
also on display and available for test drives
at the Los Angeles Auto Show in late November.
- General Motors announced that its Chevy Equinox
fuel cell SUV will be rolling out to 100 select
customers in the third quarter 2007. The fuel
cell in the Chevy Equinox is rated for 50,000
and either a two or three year lease deal is
expected to be offered.
- The Ford Explorer Fuel Cell SUV was announced
as the newest vehicle in Ford's hydrogen car
line-up. Currently, Ford has been demonstrated
its Focus FCV and has approximately 30 of the
cars in use as fleet vehicles around the world.
